From Google to Transport for London: How to personalize public services

Companies like Google or Apple are using their mobile platforms to enable external actors (developers, companies, public organisations, NGOs, etc…) to produce thousands of different applications for their clients. Thanks to all these applications Android or iOS users can personalise the services on their smartphones according to their personal needs and expectations. During the speech, I will explain how Transport for London has used Open Data to involve 7000 developers to create 800 options of information services such as City Mapper, or Google Maps that enable citizens to choose the option of information service about public transportation that better suits their personal needs. In the final part of the presentation, I will also explain how the reforms for the digitalisation of public services proposed by Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale and Team per la Trasformazione Digitale will configure the Italian Public Administration as a platform that enables third parties to use Open Data to develop additional options of public services. If the reforms will be fully implemented, Italian citizens will be able to personalise public services such as healthcare, education, transportation etc.. as they personalise the apps on their mobile phones.
